High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas announced the 2018 Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll on January 29 with the Limestone College Saints taking the first place pick.
The Limestone Saints were picked first with 90 points coming from nine first place votes. Last season, the Saints advanced to the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament. They defeated the Belmont Abbey Crusaders 15-7 in the semifinals and then took down the Mount Olive Trojans 16-5 in the finals to win the championship. They concluded their 2017 season with a 15-5 overall record.
The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive followed Limestone in the poll with 75 points. Mount Olive advanced to the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament. They defeated the North Greenville Crusaders in the semifinals to advance to the finals. However, they fell to the Limestone Saints in the finals to conclude their season with a 12-7 record. The Belmont Abbey Crusaders were picked third in the preseason poll with 75 points. The Crusaders advanced to the conference tournament and defeated the Lees-McRae Bobcats 20-6 in the quarterfinals, but they could not defeat the Limestone Saints in the semifinals. They ended their season with a 10-8 record.
The North Greenville Crusaders were picked fourth in the preseason poll with 66 points. The Crusaders of North Greenville advanced to the conference tournament where they defeated the Pfeiffer Falcons 11-8 in the quarterfinals before falling 12-3 to the Mount Olive Trojans in the semifinals. North Greenville concluded their 2017 campaign with a 10-9 record. The Lees-McRae College Bobcats came in fifth in the preseason poll with 54 points. The Bobcats advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament, but they fell 20-6 to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders to conclude their season. They finished with a 5-10 record.
Coming in sixth in the poll with 47 points, the Chowan Hawks went 4-10 overall in 2017. Just two points behind the Hawks, the Converse Valkyries took seventh pick place in the poll with 45 points. The Valkyries went 5-12 last season. Behind the Valkyries, the Erskine College Flying Fleet took eighth in the poll with 36 points. Last season, the Flying Fleet went 2-15. The Barton Bulldogs were picked ninth with 24 points after going 2-10 last season. In their first season of play, the Southern Wesleyan Warriors were picked 10th with 17 points.
"Being a first year program, the bottom is usually where you start," said Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Lindsey Schneider. "Good news is we can only go up from here! I'm looking forward to the season."
Southern Wesleyan will kick-off their inaugural Women's Lacrosse season on February 3 at 11 a.m. as they take on the Oklahoma Baptist Bison. They will host their first Conference Carolinas game of the season against the Lees-McRae Bobcats on February 15 at 4 p.m.
