Warriors Unable To Pass Valkyries

Spartanburg, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Converse Valkyries in a 20-6 final score on Tuesday evening.

The Warriors took 16 shots with 13 shots on goal in the loss to the Valkyries.  Abigail Welch led the team with six shots on goal and three goals.  Welch was followed by Skylar Taylor with two goals in the game.  Jairy Sandoval had two assists in the loss.  Sandoval had six draw controls.  Kaeleigh McDaniel had eight saves and five groundballs while in goal.

How It Happened

Converse jumped out within the first minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead, however a goal by Abigail Welch allowed the Warriors to tie the game 1-1.  The Valkyries pushed ahead with back-to-back goals by Maria Knott and Brittni Jones.  The Warriors continued to fight with shots by Betsy Bovee and Amy PfefferkornSkylar Taylor took a free position shot to score the second goal of the game for the Warriors and make the score 4-2.  A second goal by Taylor put the Warriors to within one goal of the Valkyries.  Converse continue to pressure and took an 11-3 goal advantage at the half.

The Warriors continued to push in the second half with a goal by Abigail Welch to make the score 12-4.  The Valkyries put the pressure on Southern Wesleyan despite several saves by Kaeleigh McDaniel to make the score 17-4.  Southern Wesleyan would not be thwarted with shots by Jairy Sandoval and Welch.  Sandoval got the ball again and put it in the cage to make the score 17-5.  Converse went on to win the game 20-6.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will host their final game of the inaugural season on April 21 as the Limestone Saints come to Childs Field for a noon start.
