Warriors Drop Final Regular Season Games to Bulldogs

Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the final two regular season games of the 2019 season to the Barton Bulldogs in 6-4 and 6-1 final scores.

Southern Wesleyan recorded eight hits in the game one loss.  Timo Schau and Conner Ewing led the Warriors with two hits apiece.  The Warriors had four home runs in the game with solo home runs by Tanner Glass, Quinton Bent, Devin Patrick and Conner EwingTimo Schau had the lone double of the afternoon.  Ewing and Jarred Jones were the lone Warriors to walk, and Schau had the lone stolen base in the loss.  Jackson Fischer started game one for the Warriors, pitching three innings while striking out two.  Josh Antwine came in to pitch in relief, with two strike outs over three innings pitched.

The Warriors recorded two hits in game two.  DJ Ludwick and Jarred Jones had the lone hits of the day, with Ludwick producing his first collegiate home run.  The Warriors walked two times in the second game of the afternoon.  Aaron Bennett started game two for the Warriors.  Bennett pitched 3.2 innings while allowing six hits.  Josh Core and Daniel Singleton came in to pitch in relief for Southern Wesleyan, combining for five strike outs over 4.1 innings pitched.

How It Happened

Game One

Southern Wesleyan jumped out early as Quinton Bent and Conner Ewing hit home runs over the left field wall in the top of the second inning to give the Warriors a 2-0 run advantage over the Bulldogs.  The lead was short lived as a double by Riker scored two runs and then a sacrifice ground out allowed the Bulldogs to take a 3-2.

Barton lengthened their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning.  Southern Wesleyan would not be dampened as Devin Patrick went yard in the top of the fourth to cut the Bulldogs lead to 4-3.

The Bulldogs continued to challenge the Warriors defense, as they brought in their fifth run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.  Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the sixth inning as Tanner Glass knocked his first home run of the season to left center to put the Warriors down 5-4.

The Bulldogs went on to win the first game of the day 6-4.

Game Two

Southern Wesleyan struck first in game two of the afternoon, as DJ Ludwick his first collegiate home run to left center field to give the Warriors a 1-0 run advantage.  However, the Barton Bulldogs quickly countered with runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings to win the game in a 6-1 final score.
