St. Augustine, F.L. - Southern Wesleyan suffered their first loss of the 2019-20 season to the Flagler Saints in an 84-66 final on Friday afternoon.
The Warriors shot 36.1% from the field in the loss to the Saints. Edwon Brady led the team with 12 points. He was followed by Solomon Smith, Jalen Lowery, and and TJ Harvin with 10 points each, respectively. Clenzo Ross had five of the Warriors 13 assists. Southern Wesleyan claimed 35 rebounds in the game with Smith leading the team with six. Harvin and Ta'Jay Dunlap each contributed five rebounds. SWU had three steals and one block.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan jumped out quickly with a 5-0 run on shots from TJ Harvin. The Saints answered with a 3-pointer to put themselves on the board. Flagler would tie the game at 7-7 before taking a 12-9 lead. Clenzo Ross would enter the game for the Warriors to score immediately and bring the Warriors within one, trailing 12-11. Southern Wesleyan would tie the game at 16-16 with a jumper from Jalen Lowery and again at 18-18 with a pair of free throws from Ross. Both teams traded possessions back and forth before Flagler would take a 35-29 lead approaching half-time. Shots from Hunter Davis and Solomon Smith would situate the Warriors trailing by one at 37-36 at the half.
The Flagler Saints came out of half-time with a layup to increase their lead. Southern Wesleyan responded with a layup from Ta'Jay Dunlap to bring the score back within one. The Saints pushed their lead for the remainder of the second half as the Warriors fought to keep up. The Saints would maintain a comfortable lead before the Warriors threatened with a jumper from Dunlap to put them within four, trailing 68-64. Flagler would hold the Warriors to one basket for the remaining seven minutes of the game. The Warriors last basket would come from Davis before the Saints would go on to win 84-66.
Southern Wesleyan will remain at the Southeast Region Conference Challenge on November 9 as they take on the Lander Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. They will then host their home opener on November 13 as the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears come to town at 7 p.m.
