Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped their third Conference Carolinas match up year to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 7-1 finals score.
The Warriors posted 15 shots and seven shots on goal in the loss to the Crusaders. Ashley Romanowski led the team with five shots and two on goal. Romanowski recorded the lone goal of the afternoon for the Warriors. Sydney Owens starting in goal for Southern Wesleyan, collecting eight saves. Jen Golio came in relief, collecting three saves in just over twenty minutes played.

How It Happened
Belmont Abbey attacked early as Morgan Patton took a shot on the goal, but Sydney Owens kept the ball from the net. Rachel Curtis and Ashley Romanowski attacked the net, but Lauryn Harding and the Crusaders defense kept Southern Wesleyan from scoring. Belmont Abbey took the first goal of the game as Goose Andrews scored and then they extended their lead to 2-0 minutes later on a goal by Sabrina Bologna. The Crusaders continued to pepper the Warriors defense, but Sydney Owens would not let the ball reach the net. Shots by Madison Woolbert and Natalie Thompson would not reach the net, leaving the Crusaders with a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Crusaders kicked off the second half quickly with a goal by Morgan Patton, but the Warriors quickly reciprocated as Ashley Romanowski sent in her eighth goal of the season to put Southern Wesleyan down 3-1. Belmont Abbey would not release the pressure, putting the fourth goal in minutes later. Southern Wesleyan would not go quietly as Ashley Romanowski and Natalie Thompson drilled the ball toward the net, however goalkeeper Caroline Lauer protected her territory and kept the Warriors from cutting away Belmont Abbey's lead. The Crusaders went on to win the game 7-1.
Southern Wesleyan will take some time off before traveling to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 4 p.m. on October 5. The Warriors will then return home on October 9 as they host the Emmanuel College Lions at 5 p.m. They will remain at home on October 12 to host the Barton College Bulldogs.
