How It Happened

Set One

The Bruins struck first in the contest on Monday evening with a kill from Laura Gaston. Kills from Darby Sheets tied the score at 3-3 before the Bruins could make a 5-0 run. Amber Bass responded with a kill from the middle to cut the lead to 13-10. The Warriors made their own 5-0 run to take their first lead of the match 15-14 after kills from Sheets and Bob Jones errors. Six unanswered points put the Bruins back on top with Ashlyn Holford contributing a kill to try and stop them. The Warriors were unable to re-gain the momentum and fell to the Bruins 25-17 in set one.

Set Two

A service ace put the Bruins on the board first in set two. The Warriors received their first four points off of Bob Jones errors. Holford and Olivia Johnson contributed kills to cut the Bruins lead to 13-6. Southern Wesleyan errors dug a hole and the Warriors had to fight to climb out of it. Despite a late kill from Holford, the Bruins won set two 25-12.

Set Three

The Warriors came out in set three with a new line-up in an attempt to get something going. Johnson put away the first point with the assist going to Kali Letcher. The Bruins made a quick run to take the lead, but the Warriors showed no sign of rolling over. Back-to-back kills from Bass put the Warriors within one, trailing 10-9. Five unanswered points for the Warriors forced a Bruins time-out as they led 16-13. Offensive errors from the Warriors allowed the Bruins to re-claim the lead. The energy in Historic Tysinger was enough to keep the Warriors fighting for every point. Late kills from Sheets threatened, but the Bruins were able to claim set three with a 25-23 win.
