How It Happened

Set One

The Warriors struck first in the contest on Saturday afternoon with an ace from Kali Letcher. The Flying Fleet responded with three unanswered points to take the lead. Four more unanswered points increased the Fleet's lead to 7-2. Two kills from Olivia Johnson provided momentum for the Warriors as they slowly closed the gap with an added kill from Katlyn Von Ins and a service ace from Jesse Soles to tie it at 9-9. A strong serving performance from Ashlyn Holford propelled the Warriors to a 18-16 lead. Tied again at 22-22, neither team controlled the possession towards the end of the set with both teams collecting five kills each. Errors from the Warriors would allow Erskine to win set one 25-23.

Set Two

A Fleet error gave the Warriors the first point of the second set. The Fleet took advantage of their possession and gained the lead with a kill from Katy Torgerson. The Warriors fell behind 13-5 after a run of errors and strong offensive performances. Southern Wesleyan attempted to cut the lead with kills from Holford and Johnson to trail on 16-13. Erskine pulled together five kills before the Warriors could score a string of four points. Unfortunately, the string of points was not enough as the Fleet won set two 25-19.

Set Three

Erskine scored the first point in the third set on a kill from Torgerson. Both teams rallied and fought for control of the game. A kill from Darby Sheets put the Warriors up 11-10. The Warriors extended their lead to 16-13 on kills from Amber Bass and Johnson. The Fleet put together a strong presence at the net with several kills and limiting the Warriors opportunities to strike. Despite late errors from the Fleet, they were able to seal the set and the match with a 25-22 win.
