How It Happened

Set One

The Bobcats started the match with a 5-0 run before an attack error would turn the ball over to the Warriors. Olivia Johnson responded with a kill to give the Warriors their first earned point. Another 5-0 run would put the Bobcats ahead 12-2 before the Warriors could answer with three points of their own. Several SWU points would come from Bobcat errors, but kills from Holford and Bass attempted to cut down on their lead. A string of six unanswered points would close the first set for the Bobcats as they won comfortably at 25-9.

Set Two

Johnson opened the second set with a kill that would give the Warriors the momentum to take a 7-3 lead. Sarah Stone and Johnson would go on to lead the offensive production for a majority of the second set. As the Warriors continued to build their lead, the Bobcats threatened with strong offensive performances of their own. The Bobcats had claimed a 12-9 lead, but the Warriors reclaimed the lead at 14-13 with a service ace from Jesse Soles. As teams traded possessions and leads back and forth, they remained even at 22-22. Despite a late kill from Johnson, the Bobcats would escape set two with a 25-23 win.

Set Three

Lees-McRae struck first in the third set with a kill from Caitlyn Smirne. A kill from Stone would force an early tie at 5-5. The Warriors would lead at 9-8 after several Bobcat errors. Johnson would lift the Warriors ahead 13-11 with back-to-back kills. Despite holding a consistent lead throughout the first half of the third set, the Bobcats threatened with a 3-0 run that then followed a 4-0 run to put them ahead 22-18. Another kill from Johnson would attempt a Warrior run, but the Bobcats closed the match with a 25-20 win.
